We need to help parents realize that just waiting until arriving at church to worship isn’t enough, for themselves and for their kids. It needs to be a part of every family’s spiritual life all week.

It’s important to worship in front of your kids—in the car or at home. Even spend time singing songs and worshiping with your kids. Your example makes a difference in your children’s spiritual life and future! It’s not anything we should take lightly.

Look at these verses in Psalm 145:3-7:

Lord, you are great. You are really worthy of praise.
No one can completely understand how great you are.
Parents will praise your works to their children.
They will tell about your mighty acts.
They will speak about your glorious majesty.
I will spend time thinking about your miracles.
They will speak about the powerful and wonderful things you do.
I will talk about the great things you have done.
They will celebrate your great goodness.
They will sing with joy about your holy acts.

These verses show us how important it is for parents to teach and show their kids how to worship.

Even in ministry, we are spiritual parents to the kids of our churches. I believe if we take this interaction from Psalm 145 to heart your kids’ ministry worship will go to new places you’ve never been. Be an example in all you do: words and deed. Show and teach others how to worship the living and true God that we serve.

If you send out regular newsletters or take-home papers, consider adding recommendations for some great worship songs and albums for families. When you know of great music and worship resources for kids, share those with parents. Educate them about what is available to play for car rides and time at home so that they can have a family praise celebration wherever they are.

Have family worship nights where kids and parents can participate in worship together. This could be a special concert where you bring in a guest or you create a fun evening on your own where your kids and adult worship teams work together to create a fun mix of songs where generations can engage in worship together.

There is power when kids worship. Their worship can impact families in ways that we can’t even imagine. We need to encourage parents to be the spiritual leaders in their family like what we see in Psalm 22:

“From the four corners of the earth people are coming to their senses, are running back to God. Long-lost families are falling on their faces before him. . . . Our children and their children will get in on this as the word is passed along from parent to child. Babies not yet conceived will hear the good news—that God does what he says.” (MSG)
