This encouraging story comes to us from our friend Dennis Humprhey at Paramount Baptist Church in Amarillo, Texas. Dennis is the children’s pastor there and has witnessed nothing short of an explosion of ministry goodness in the past few months!
The blessings [of going Orange] have far outweighed anything we could have ever prayed for or imagined. When we came to the Orange Conference, I remember Andy Stanley sitting on the stage and saying that he had to tell a visiting couple, “Don’t visit our church with your kids unless you’re prepared to join, ’cause once your kids come, you won’t have a choice.”
That has been my prayer for our ministry and our church. It doesn’t have to be that exact thing, but I want something that the kids are excited to come to and where they learn about God. I wanted something to where the kids are pulling the parents out of bed to come to church instead of the other way around … And God has answered my prayers!!
Our Children’s Ministry has blown up since we started our Children’s Worship Service on August 28! We were averaging about eighty-two kids in first through fifth grade, with a church running close to 1200 in worship. Eighty-two!? That tells you that our church is old and has not been reaching our generation …
But in the past three and a half months we have jumped that average up to 140! We are getting anywhere from eight to thirteen visitors in Peebz (our Children’s Ministry) each Sunday morning, but it doesn’t stop there – they are coming back! We are getting all kinds of texts, stories, emails, and phone calls about how much the chldren are loving the worship service or how appreciative the parents are that their children are loving it and also learning it.
